This Maltese Dj and Producer already has several releases under his belt with alter ego “Deepfunk” for his deep and melodic music, “Trebon” which he uses for his own brand of underground minimal beats and ‘Ecosphere’ for more electro and experimental stuff.
Over the past few years, Malcolm has garnered attention for his extremely diverse and genre crossing studio efforts. Shortly after ‘Transitions” was released in September 2007 on Emote Music (US), his tracks were already getting played by Djs from all across the dance music spectrum, been invited multiple times as a guest DJ on top internet radio stations worldwide. Malcolm even hit 2nd place in the “best selling chart” on 3beatrecords.com with his first release, “Pain Killing Pills”.
Joined Stripped Recordings (Stated as label of the year by Sasha) in April ’09 and remixed artists like Nomad in the Dark, Norman H own re-release “Wrapped in Plastic”, Yamil Colucci and Darren Flecta’s epic track ‘Emitting White Light’. Sasha, John Digweed, Nick Warren, Hernan Cattaneo and Dave Seaman are constantly supporting and playing his tracks.
Early 2010, Deepfunk was requested to join a new label launched in June 2010, Silence Through Music founded by Eduardo Moises and Parlange in the USA to release a number of original tracks and remixes alongside artists like Way Out West, Charlie May / Spooky, Guy J, Jim Rivers, Chris Fortier, Quivver, Anthony Pappa, Yousef and more. 2010 saw Deepfunk releasing tracks on various top labels like Silence Through Music, Piemont, Frisky Records, Lowbit, Destroy the Ego (Kindred) and more. Releses on labels like Afterglow, Replug, Whose Haus?, Subtract amongst others are to follow in 2011.
Some important gigs were doing warm up sets and playing alongside artists like James Holden, Guy J, Charlie May, John Digweed, Dave Seaman, Len Faki, Fairmont, Nathan Fake and Sasha.
Malcolm keeps himself constantly emerged in the world of electronic music, in the studio, and DJing with both old and new technology, and listening to a wide variety of music to better his sound. Not only impressing the crowd with his productions, he also manages to deliver mind blowing live performances and DJ making it sound unique in every set.
With a great start in 2011, winning the ‘Bedrock – Marco Bailey Remix Competition, and an ever-expanding career and zest for pushing electronic music forward, Deepfunk is definitely one to watch this year.
